video statement

Detective Short,
Chuck finds out
for the first time
that the victim
was strangled with
his own
belt. the
following is an
excerpt from this
interview: Page
21, Line 4.
Short's question:
"Is it
possible that you
know what it
was" (meaning
what Mr. Heitholt
was strangled
with) "and
you just didn't
want to tell
me?"
Chuck's answer:
"I think it
was a shirt or
something."
Short: "Well,
we know it wasn't
a
shirt."
Chuck: "Maybe
a bungee cord or
something from his
car. I don't
see why he'd have
a rope in his
car."
Short then makes
this statement:
"Well, we
know for a fact
that his belt was
ripped off of his
pants and he was
strangled with his
belt."
Chuck's answer:
"REALLY!"
Short's next
question:
"Yeah. Did
you see a belt in
Ryan's hand?
Something that
looked like a rope
maybe or a bungee
cord?"
Chuck's answer:
"I don't
know."
Short: "Okay.
You didn't put
anything in your
hand
then?"
Chuck's answer:
"No. I mean,
I don't remember
that at
all."
Page 23 Line 4:
Short's question:
"So it's possible
Ryan could have
strangled this guy
with his belt, got
the keys, and you
not know about
it?"
Chuck's answer
asks for
clarification in a
surprised tone:
"The guy? The
man's
belt?"
Short:
"Yeah."
Chuck asking for
further
clarification:
"His own
belt?"
Short: "Yes,
Does that ring a
bell?"
Chuck's answer:
"Not at all.
Like-"
Short: "But
you saw Ryan
strangle him
though?"
Chuck's answer:
"I thought I
did."
Short: "Yeah.
Okay. All
right."
Chuck: "I
mean, I might not
even know what I'm
talking about
now."
